Jamaican Jerk Seasoning Blend

Serenity Food: Jamaican Jerk Seasoning Blend
This is a basic recipe for mixing up your very own Jamaican Jerk Seasoning Blend. Like always, feel free to make tweaks as you see fit. I love this blend of spices and I use it constantly.

I love Caribbean/West Indian inspired foods, so you will see this recipe featured heavily in future recipes.

If you’re wondering why you should mix up your own spice blends, here are a few good reasons:

  1. You can control the amount of salt you use. The biggest problem with premade mixes is that you have to use just a tiny bit if you don’t want to eat your week’s worth of sodium in one sitting. By creating your own, you can add just enough salt and then taste and adjust when you are actually cooking.
  2. There are no unnecessary chemical additives, fillers, or anti-caking agents in your homemade version. I promise your food will taste just great without monosodium glutamate (MSG), modified food starch, or silicone dioxide.
  3. It’s so much cheaper! I’m all about saving money.
I like to get my dried spices from bulk containers from stores like Sprouts or other natural grocers. You can use prepackaged spices from grocery stores as well, just be mindful of the expiration date. Stores often keep the spices on the shelfs for longer than they should. This results in stale spices that defeat the purpose.
